The Heart-in-Hand design, consisting of a heart inside an open palm, is easily recognizable in the northern United States where it originated with the Shakers.  It represents charity given from the heart and implies a loving welcome.  The words “Hand to Work, Heart to God” often accompany the design.  This Heart-in-Hand design is part of a set of three folk art designs and features the bandaging technique.
